Economics Lessons
Ask a room of juniors what economics means and most say the stock market, maybe crypto if someone's older brother trades. Almost none of them connect it to the thing they actually complain about every week, which is why gas costs more some months than others. That's usually where I start, with scarcity, supply and demand, and prices doing their job whether we like it or not.
Econ has a reputation problem, and it's worse in a credit recovery classroom. Students who are already behind and running low on patience hear a phrase like "market equilibrium" and shut the laptop. The math scares them off before the ideas even get a chance.
My lessons skip the jargon-first approach. We open with price ceilings and floors, why the Fed matters to somebody who's never opened a savings account, and how a recession actually touches a teenager's life. Free, ready to print, and built to hook a kid who's already decided this class is pointless.
