My Community and Community Helpers

Young students usually know the people in a neighborhood before they know how all the places connect. I use these images to join those pieces: a community kid, backpack, home types, helper cycle, fire truck, firefighter helmet, police car, police badge, stethoscope, hospital, nurse cap, school bus, mailbox, farm tractor, library books, apartments, houses, farmhouse, and park bench. The set gives me jobs, buildings, and everyday objects to name together.

It fits kindergarten through third-grade units on neighborhoods, community helpers, maps, and local services. For a specific lesson, I'll spread the school, hospital, library books, fire truck, mailbox, and homes around a table and have teams design a simple neighborhood map with routes for a helper. That keeps the focus on where people work and how places connect. The handshake and helper badge are useful for a class book about service, while the farm and apartment images widen the idea of community beyond one street. I get both color and blackline art for displays, labels, and student coloring pages.
