Map Skills
Practical map-skills clip art for directions, symbols, scale, grids, keys, globes, GPS, and exploring places.
A map should feel like a tool, not a decorated page. That's the idea behind the compass rose, folded map, treasure map, grid, map pin, magnifying glass, ruler, globes, city map, map key, old map, ship compass, explorer hat, smartphone GPS, satellite, dashboard GPS, road map, weather map, topographic map, distance scale, and two kid explorers here. The variety lets me move from playful practice to real map language.
This fits grades 2 through 5 units on cardinal directions, symbols, legends, grids, scale, and digital mapping. For a specific lesson, I'll hide a small object in the room and give teams a grid map with a key and compass rose. They must follow written directions, use the scale, and mark the final location. I can then compare that paper process with the GPS and satellite images. Color versions are clear for projected demonstrations. Blackline versions work well for students who need to draw their own symbols, routes, and map keys.
