Famous Americans
Familiar figures, inventions, and achievements for elementary American history biography units.
I made this set for biography work that begins with a clue and ends with a person's choices and contributions. The images point to George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller, Garrett Morgan, and Neil Armstrong through objects such as a tricorn hat, stovepipe hat, log cabin, kite, bifocals, bus, lightbulb, phonograph, Braille book, airplane, moon lander, and astronaut suit. It fits grades 2 to 5 biography, innovation, and civil rights units.
I'd hand each student a color clue card and ask them to research the person, verify the connection, and add a dated event to a class timeline. The blackline versions work as evidence cards for a "Who am I?" partner activity or a biography booklet cover. I'd be careful to distinguish legend from documented history, especially with the cherry-tree story. Both color and blackline files are included for timeline displays, reading responses, and low-ink student illustrations.
