Butterflies and Life Cycles
Butterfly life-cycle and garden clip art for close observation, sequencing, pollination, and elementary science centers.
Butterflies are a wonderful excuse to slow down and look closely. I made this set with the full sequence in mind: egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, emerging butterfly, monarch, blue, yellow, purple, and flying butterflies. Garden images include milkweed, green leaf, red flower, butterfly on a flower, nibbled leaf, watering can, garden sign, and a bug jar. A magnifying glass, net, kid scientist, life-cycle arrows, ladybug, and bee support observation without crowding the main story.
I'd use it in kindergarten through grade 3 units on metamorphosis, needs of living things, and pollination. A specific activity is a "tiny scientist" observation page: students sequence the four stages, draw what might change next, and use the nibbled leaf or flower to add evidence. Color files make an inviting garden display or read-aloud slide. Blackline files are ready for cut-and-order cards, coloring, and notebook labels. The set stays centered on one organism in depth, which gives students room to notice that a caterpillar and butterfly look very different while belonging to one life cycle.
