American Symbols and Landmarks
U.S. symbols, landmarks, and civic images for elementary American history and civics units.
A flag is one thing; a landmark is another, and young students often mix them up. I use this set to build that distinction with the American flag, a child with a hand over heart, bald eagles, the Statue of Liberty and torch, Liberty Bell, White House, U.S. Capitol, Mount Rushmore, Washington Monument, USA map, compass rose, fireworks, star, and patriotic bunting. It fits grades K to 5 units on national symbols, landmarks, maps, and civic traditions.
For one lesson, I'd place the color images in stations and have students write what each item represents and where a landmark is located. The blackline versions work for a foldable in which children draw a symbol on the front and explain its meaning inside. I'd also use the flag, eagle, and bell to discuss how symbols can carry different stories and feelings. If Mount Rushmore is part of the lesson, I'd pair it with Lakota perspectives on the Black Hills. That context belongs beside the landmark, not in a footnote.
